Complexify is the home of the scholar practitioners who try to understand human interaction as complex responsive processes. We are interested in paying attention to relationships, group dynamics and history to increase our capacities to act. We work across the public and private sector in the UK and in Denmark as consultants and researchers.

How we found each other

We found each other through our involvement as students and faculty on the University of Hertfordshire's Doctor of Management Programme, directed by Chris Mowles since 2011.

Originally set up by Ralph Stacey, Doug Griffin and Patricia Shaw in the early 2000s, the programme is a group-based research degree leading to a masters or doctorate that draws on ideas from the complexity sciences, process sociology, group analytic theory and pragmatist philosophy.

Dr Kiran Chauhan

Kiran is an organisational consultant working working mainly in the health sector in England. He is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire and has previously held a range of roles in the NHS and in strategy consulting.

Advisor

Emma  is an anthropologist working on politics, governance and identity in civil society organisations and parliament in the UK, South Asia and East Africa based at SOAS, University of London where she is a professor.

Prof Chris Mowles

Advisor

Chris is Professor of Complexity and Management at the Business School, University of Hertfordshire and an Associate Member of the Institute of Group Analysis. He is also director of, and  research supervisor on, the Doctor of Management programme, and works as an organisational consultant.

Prof Karen Norman

Advisor

Karen has worked in healthcare for 40 years in the public and private sectors in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Gibraltar. She is currently a non-executive director for an NHS trust, and visiting professor at Hertfordshire and Kingston Universities.

Prof Nick Sarra

Advisor

Nick works as a consultant psychotherapist in the NHS. He is a member of the Institute of Group Analysis and a registered Art therapist. He is a visiting professor at Hertfordshire and Exeter universities.
